What are Provisionals?

“Provisional” is the term we use to describe a new member who is seeking active membership with the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties (JLDOC). 

The Provisional program combines education about our mission (empowering women) with training and opportunities to establish relationships and build community with members.

How does the provisional semester differ from active membership?

As provisionals, we encourage you to explore and engage with as much of the league experience as possible. We want you to focus on making connections and building relationships and learning about our league. We have requirements for provisionals that align with those goals.

Once you become an active member, you will be placed on a committee to fulfill a committee placement role and your active member requirements will change based on years in the league.

What are the requirements for my Provisional semester?

In order to successfully complete your provisional semester you must complete the following:

    •  Pay Provisional Dues
    •  Attend Super Sunday: September 20, 2026
    •  Attend All Provisional Class Meetings (all meetings: 6:30PM Social, 7:00PM – 8:30PM Program) 
    •  Participate in 1 Extra Hands Shift 
    •  Attend a Provisional Dine Out 
    •  Complete the following: 
      •  Attend 1 JLDOC General Membership Meeting (1st Wednesday of each month) 
      •  Participate in an “extra” JLDOC Event (Membership Development event, League Social, Book Club, Supper Club, Affinity Group Meetup)

Fall Provisional Dates
    • Super Sunday: September 20, 2026 (1:00-3:00 pm)
    • JLDOC 101: September 30, 2026 (6:30-8:30 pm)
    • JLDOC 102: October 21, 2026 (6:30-8:30 pm)
    • JLDOC 103: November 11, 2026 (6:30-8:30 pm)
    • JLDOC 104: November 18, 2026 (6:30-8:30 pm)
    • Holiday Party: December 16, 2026

What if I can’t make some of the meetings?

Attendance for JLDOC 101-104 is mandatory and if you have a conflict with more than one meeting, we encourage you to defer your provisional semester to the next opening. Provisionals must complete all requirements to move into active membership
